On this website you'll find some sound samples and some information about dialects in German speaking Switzerland.
If you are interested in a dialect of a specific area and if you want to listen to how it sounds like, just click on the "map"-item or on the "list"-item in the navigation bar on the left. You can then click on an area in the Swiss map or choose a sound sample directly from the list.
We also provide further details about the sound samples, such as who the speakers are, when the samples were recorded and, in some cases, the transcriptions of the oral texts.
In order to play the samples, you need a browser (Netcsacpe, Explorer, iCab) which is equipped and set in a way that allows playing mp3 sound files (i.e. QuickTime-Player & Plugin) or which enables you to play sound files by means of an external program (i.e. RealPlayer, Windoze Media Player.
In the section "texts" you'll find some more texts written in dialect as well as articles about dialects. In the section "surveys" you can participate online in inquiries on dialects in the whole of Switzerland. In the section "links" you will find links to other websites about dialects, language and linguistics.
